The Young Magicians Club is a youth initiative of The Magic Circle, the world's premier magical society. Formed in 1996, the mission of the club is to promote the performance of magic by the young people of today (aged between 10 and 18) and encourage them in their chosen art form so that they can grow into the fine magicians of tomorrow.

To do this The Magic Circle uses its vast knowledge and experience to instruct, encourage and entertain the members of The Young Magicians Club.

We are delighted to tell you that Alex Joseph is doing the card session at this month’s workshop on 21st January.  He is giving an in depth look at the Double Lift.  It is a commonly used utility that features in many card effects. It is often viewed as a very simple move, however there are plenty of magicians who perform it badly. This talk will aim to help you hone your double lift technique and to learn some basic effects that use a double lift. In addition to that, we welcome back David Weeks this month and he is doing some work on one of magic’s classic effects – the Egg Bag.  So many magicians in the past have featured egg bag routines in stage shows, walkabout magic and children’s parties and David features his own routine which he has perfected over the years.  He is the examinations officer for The Magic Circle so the older members can take advantage of him being there at lunchtime to talk to him about graduating from the Young Magicians Club to The Magic Circle. Our third workshop presenter is one of our very favourites.  We are always happy to welcome back the one-and-only Wayne Fox.  He has promised some great coin magic for you this month so be prepared to learn from one of the best!

Here is the link to buy your ticket:

On the bill this year we have two lectures, one by past member Steve Dela and the other by one of the country's top mentalists Marc Paul. He was on the Council of The Magic Circle in 1996 and with Anthony Owen and, first YMC Chairman, Richard Stupple was responsible for setting up The Young Magicians Club. Our celebrity interview this year is Anthony Owen who is responsible for producing all the tv magic shows from Objective Productions including the Derren Brown shows, the "50 All-time Greatest Magic Tricks" programmes and all the variations of "Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic!" The interview is once again being conducted by Richard Young who is a YMC past-member and interviews all the stars in the weekly Magic podcast. He is one half of Young and Strange and he is also compering our Gala Show at J-Day. Steve Dela and Marc Paul are also performing in the Gala Show along with past members Edward Hilsum (now touring in "Champions of Magic") and Elizabeth Rogan. Our Annual Awards Ceremony, Stage Competition and Close-Up Competition complete a very full day which starts at 10.30am and finishes at around 8.00pm

We look forward to seeing you there! Tickets are £16.50 (fully inclusive of the website booking fees) and are limited so do not delay!

The elimination heats were held on 17th September for this year’s competitions at J-Day, our annual convention.  Over 30 acts performed and had to be whittled down to the best six for close-up and the best six for stage.  In the end, for close-up, the judges could not decide on six and have put through seven!

Here are the acts who will be competing for the trophies and vouchers from our favourite dealers:

The Close-Up Trophy (sponsored by Mark Leveridge Magic)

  • Charlie Hewish
  • Sam Hinch
  • Ryan Jackson
  • Oliver Jones
  • Dean Leavy

  • Fletcher Ransberry

The Stage Trophy (sponsored by Alakazam)

  • Joshua Hennes
  • Dean Leavy
  • Theo Mellor
  • Fletcher Ransberry
  • Sam Saffron
  • Matty Turner
We wish them all the best of luck in October and offer our commiserations to those who did not make it through, some of whom were really good and only just missed out.  Watch out for news about J-Day here very soon!
